Last week, in the framework of the UCLG World Congress and Summit of Local and Regional Leaders, convened in Tangier from 22 to 25 June 2026, the UCLG Women Assembly was celebrated for the first time of the history of the Global Municipal Movement and World Organization. 

    From representation to transformation, women and feminist local leaders from all regions of the world gathered to shape the future of democracy and multilateral governance through local public policy-making centered on care and equality for all, empowering the Feminist Municipal Movement worldwide.

    The first UCLG Women’s Assembly is a recognition that local democracy cannot be built while half of its leadership continues to fight for equal space within it.
